Reinforced Pee Pads: The Best Options for Large Dogs

If you have a large dog at home, you’ve probably struggled to find a pee pad that actually holds up.

Here at home, Thor — my 40 kg German Shepherd — has torn, dragged, soaked, and “decorated” with nearly every pee pad brand I tried in the early days.

I used to think all pee pads were the same… until I started dealing with giant puddles, lingering smells, and the frustration of a wet floor even after placing the pad.

That’s when I started researching and testing reinforced models, specifically made for big dogs.

If you’re in the same situation, here’s an honest guide with tips, personal experience, and the best reinforced pee pads that actually worked with my big boy.

Why regular pads don’t work

Standard pee pads are fine for small breeds, but with large dogs, it’s a whole different story:

  • They produce much more urine.
  • Many big dogs move around while peeing, so you need more coverage.
  • If the pad doesn’t have leakproof barriers, it spills over the sides.
  • Some dogs love playing with the pad — especially if it’s thin or easy to rip.

Thor, for example, used to drag the pad across the house before even using it. One time, I found the pee in the living room — and the pad? It was in the backyard.

What to look for in a reinforced pad

After lots of trial and error, I figured out the best pads for large dogs should include:

  • Large or extra-large size
  • Super absorbent gel to trap urine and reduce odor
  • Strong adhesive corners or non-slip base to prevent movement
  • Leakproof edges
  • Odor control for long periods, especially if your dog stays indoors a lot

Top 4 Reinforced Pee Pads for Large Dogs

These are the ones that actually worked at my house:

🟩 1. Super Secão – Giant Dog Pee Pad

This one really impressed me. It’s huge, super absorbent, and controls odor for hours.

What I like:

  • Extra-large size
  • Strong adhesive that actually sticks
  • Great value with bulk packages

Best for: daily indoor use.

🟦 2. Sanol Dog Premium Pee Pad

This one has a pleasant scent, and the gel locks in liquid fast. Thor uses it and it dries in minutes.

What I like:

  • Light fragrance
  • Excellent leak protection
  • Durable, even with frequent use

Best for: dogs that pee often or stay home alone longer.

🟥 3. Petix Washable Pad

This one’s different: it’s washable. I use it as an extra layer under a disposable pad, but it can be used on its own too.

What I like:

  • Reusable (great for saving money)
  • Tough fabric
  • Absorbs well and easy to wash

Best for: travel, backup protection, or as a base under other pads.

🟨 4. Chalesco Super Premium Pad

Top quality and holds a LOT of pee. It’s more expensive, but totally worth it — especially on rainy days when Thor doesn’t want to go outside.

What I like:

  • Incredible absorption
  • Lasts up to 12 hours
  • Great odor control

Best for: long hours indoors.

Bonus tip: teach the right spot

Even the best pad won’t help if your dog doesn’t know where to go. I made a special corner for Thor with a small fence, washable flooring, and scented pads.

In just a few weeks, he knew exactly where to go — and life got way easier.

One thing I’ve learned: with large dogs, everything has to be reinforced — toys, leashes, food bowls… and yes, pee pads too.

Investing in a strong pee pad isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity — and it’ll save you time, money, and sanity in the long run.

So, have you tried any of these? Got another favorite brand? Let me know — I’m always up for a good tip! 🐾🧼💪
