If there’s one thing that used to drive me crazy, it was the amount of hair my dog left all over the house. Sofa, bed, clothes, floors… it looked like he was shedding three times a day!
If you have a pet at home, you know exactly what I’m talking about.
At first, I thought it was normal. Every dog sheds, right? But after a while, I realized it was just too much.
The house was always full of fur, and no matter how much I cleaned, nothing seemed to help.
That’s when I started researching and came across a variety of products that help control shedding. And let me tell you: I tried a bunch.
Some didn’t do a thing. But others? Total game changers that completely improved our routine.
If you’re dealing with the same thing, keep reading — I’m going to share what really worked for me.
1. High-quality food: the foundation of everything
There’s no way around it — diet is everything. I thought I was feeding my dog just fine with a popular, affordable brand.
But when I brought him to the vet, the first thing he said was: “This food has too much dye and poor ingredients. It might be affecting his skin and coat.”
So, I switched to a super premium kibble, one designed specifically for skin support. Within weeks, I saw a huge difference — stronger, shinier hair and a lot less shedding.
It’s more expensive, yes. But so worth it. I spend less time cleaning, brushing, and my dog is clearly healthier and more comfortable.
2. Omega 3 & 6 supplements
Another game-changer? Omega 3 and 6 supplements. You can find them in capsule form or as a powder to mix with food.
They’re essential for skin health and support coat regeneration.
I started adding these to his daily meals and within two weeks, his fur looked glossier and he wasn’t scratching as much.
That’s when I realized the shedding wasn’t just about hair — it was also about irritated skin.
3. Shed-control shampoos and conditioners
Bath time is sacred in our house, and once I began using shed-control shampoo, I noticed a big improvement.
There are plenty of options made for sensitive skin or dogs prone to allergies.
I use one with aloe vera and vitamin E that strengthens the coat from the root.

I also add a moisturizing conditioner now and then, which helps keep the fur soft and less brittle.
Just a tip: always check with a vet before using a new product, since every dog is different.
4. Using the right brush makes a huge difference
Sounds silly, but the right brush changed everything for us. I used to have a basic bristle brush, but then I discovered a deshedding tool — and wow.
I brush my dog three times a week now. The amount of hair that comes off is wild — but at least it ends up in the brush and not all over the house!
Plus, grooming time became bonding time. He loves it and stays super calm.
5. Pet wipes and hydrating sprays
A friend recommended pet wipes and a leave-in spray for in-between baths.
They help keep the coat clean and hydrated, especially on dry days when skin can get flaky.
Now, after brushing or on days without a bath, I give him a quick spray and it really helps manage the shedding.
Is it worth it?
Today, I can say: yes, absolutely worth it. The shedding hasn’t disappeared — and it shouldn’t — but the difference is huge.
The house is cleaner, my dog’s coat is softer and shinier, and we’re all more relaxed.
Plus, he’s more comfortable, without the itching and irritation.
If you’re struggling with this too, start with the food, and then slowly try out some of the other products.
I bet you’ll find the perfect combo for your furry friend.
And remember: always consult a vet first!
